WEEKLY MATH UPDATES
Our main focus is still connecting with students, getting to know each other, and learning how to use the technology that will facilitate our learning. We know there will still be challenges, glitches, and frustrations this week. That’s okay! We will be forgiving, patient, and flexible and hope you will do the same. For immediate tech help try the CPS Online Reopening Guide support page.
7th grade continues to investigate the idea of the constant of proportionality. We will also use the constant of proportionality to write equations for proportional relationships. We will end the week with a short quiz on proportional equations.
- 7.RP.A.2Recognize and represent proportional relationships between quantities.
- 7.RP.A.2.b Identify the constant of proportionality (unit rate) in tables, graphs, equations, diagrams, and verbal descriptions of proportional relationships.
- 7.RP.A.2.c Represent proportional relationships by equations.
8th grade continues their study angle relationships. We start the week with angle relationships and measures when a transversal intersects parallel lines. We will use Desmos activities to practice and assess student understanding of these angle relationships. We will also review triangle characteristics.
- 7.G.B.5Use facts about supplementary, complementary, vertical, and adjacent angles in a multi-step problem to write and solve simple equations for an unknown angle in a figure.
- 8.G.A.5Use informal arguments to establish facts about the angle sum and exterior angle of triangles, about the angles created when parallel lines are cut by a transversal, and the angle-angle criterion for similarity of triangles.
