- Happy Spring! Speaking of spring→ Spring Break is coming! March 29 to April 2!
- We are also quickly approaching the end of the quarter--have you students check their grades in STUDENT PORTAL to be sure they are caught up on assignments and they know their current grades!
- HYBRID LEARNING WEEK 3: We continue our new Hybrid and Remote schedules on Monday March 22!
- For the new 7th Grade Hybrid Homeroom--please reference this SLIDE SHOW for all the information about schedules, pods, supply lists, COVID protocols.
- In-person attendance--anyone attending in-person must complete the DAILY HEALTH SCREENER before entering Ray school. Please complete the screener before coming to school to make entry go as smooth as possible.
- In-person reminders--
- Follow your Pod schedule. If you do not know your pod--contact Mr. Albrecht immediately!
- School will start at 8:30 a.m. and we will start dismissal at 3:30 p.m.
- Bring a water bottle (and maybe an extra water or beverage for lunch)

WEEKLY UPDATES
Our main focus is working with figurative language such as refrain, tone, mood, shift, diction, personification, and theme.
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.L.7.5
Demonstrate understanding of figurative language, word relationships, and nuances in word meanings.
In Writing, we will be reading an excerpt about the struggle of being mis-representation in education to celebrate Deaf Awareness month. The writing piece is a focus on writing a summary.
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.8.2
Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas, concepts, and information through the selection, organization, and analysis of relevant content.
7th and 8th grade Students continue week 3 of a new model for math learning this week. I am still writing the lesson plan and grading student work for all students for math. Students can find access to assignments in the same Google Classroom they have been using all year. The person who will be directly helping students on M,TU,TH,F will be their new homeroom teacher. I will still see students remotely on Wednesdays.
Expressions and Equations Work with radicals and integer exponents.
- CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.8.EE.A.1
Know and apply the properties of integer exponents to generate equivalent numerical expressions. For example, 32 × 3-5 = 3-3 = 1/33 = 1/27.
Students will continue to use Khan Academy for individual/asynchronous learning.
Reminder--with the return to in-person learning for some Ray students, the daily schedule for Ray middle school students is shifting. Due to in-person school going to 3:45 p.m., algebra class will be shifted to now be from 4:30 p.m. to 5:20 p.m., Monday through Thursday, starting on Monday, March 8, 2021. We will still meet remotely using the same Google Classroom and Google Meet. I will update you if there are any other changes. Please contact me with any questions or concerns.
Math Class Information
- STUDENT EMAIL: Students and families must be able to access their student’s email. Need help or logging in for the first time: Go Here. The student CPS email is the access to Google Classroom for assignments and information, to Google Meet to attend class remotely, and to Aspen Student Portal for grades.
- Weekly Individual/Asynchronous Assignments: Khan Academy--this week we have 5 exercises. Due each Friday by 11:59 p.m. Check Google Classroom for this and for other weekly assignments.
- Google Classroom Links: Students and families can use the student’s CPS email to access their Google Classrooms.
- Supplies List
- Curriculum and unit overviews: Open-Up-- This is the launch page. Choose your role as parent and 7th or 8th grade to see an overview of every unit and lesson for the whole year.
- Grades: Starting September 8, 2020 CPS will return to regular grading practices, as the district will ensure all students have the tools they need to succeed. Grading scale. Be sure to check your child's IEP, because they may have a modified grading scale.

- Communication platforms with students: Google Classroom, CPS email, Google Meet (whole class), Google Chat, and Google JamBoard.
- Communication platforms with parents/families: email, blog, telephone. We recommend that parents/families know the emails and passwords of their students so they can also access Google Classroom.
