- Find your variable.
- Find out what else is happening on that side, meaning what operations is happening. 2x + 3 = 13. Your variable is x and there is an expression where 3 is being added to my 2x. All of it equals to 13 right now.
- Balance is by doing the opposite operation o + 3 by - 3 on both sides. At this point you should have 2x = 10.
- To get X by itself you have to divide it by 2, and x = 5
- To be sure of yourself; plug the value of x back into the original equation. 2(5) + 3 = 13. You got it! Tomorrow we make note cards, Yahoo!
If you haven't turned in your homework: here is what is due. Today you have turn to page 123 problems d and e. Use the examples as a guide for the problems. If you aren't caught up you need to read until page 197. So start where you left off or start at 167 and read on through. See you tomorrow. Homework consists of solving for a variable using two-step method; Page 124: 1,2,and 3.
1. Remember 1. find your variable. 2. Identify what is happening to that side of the equation. 3. Do the opposite operation to isolate your variable (get it by itself); so if you have a x + 3. Than you need to subtract 3 on both sides. This is key. To balance your equation and find out what the unknown variable is, you have to do the opposite on both sides. For instance, if you have a var. with a co-efficient of 3 multiplying times 3: 3x, you will need to divide by 3 to get x by itself Sometimes you have a couple of steps, just take time and balance and isolate that one side of the equation. Good luck and bring your questions to me in the morning. Remember last nights homework was late and if you haven't turned it in yet, do so (page 110: 1-7) It's here! The essay about the external and internal factors that are shaping Junior's identity. This 500 word minimum essay must have all the makings of an essay: Thesis statement/claim, evidence's, links, and concluding paragraph. You need to chose three external factors and brainstorm about graphic details. The more graphic the better. Tomorrow, you will begin instruction about your claim/thesis statement. We will use Melcon.
What you need to do tonight is think of your external factors and all the situations from the book that give evidence toward your choices. Find the book page number. Tonight use a T-Chart to connect your brainstorm to the correct external factors. Also, you need to be caught up to page 168 by tomorrow. Glenco: single variable equations. Page 110 problems 1-7. Remember, Find the operation, do the opposite on both sides, and you will have the value for your variable.
Everybody needs to get caught up to page 168 by Wednesday.
Tomorrow in class we will begin our end of the quarter essay about The Absolutely True Diary... Read through the Hunger Pains (page 151). Also, finish the worksheet on compound subject and predicate.
This is due Thursday: George told his teacher that he spent over 21,000 seconds working on his homework. Express this amount using scientific notation. What would be a more appropriate unit of time for George to use? Explain and convert to your new units.
