Our 6th graders are becoming more accustomed to Math Daily Practice. We have mastered mean, median, mode, and range. Now we are focusing on histograms, multiplication charts, and proportions. There is something to be said about being reminded of area and finding out a value using two different units.
The 7th grader in our group is is becoming more astute to unit rate's. This scholar will be embarking on a project where she will analyze how supermarkets use unit rates to give the consumer an idea of cost per unit. Language Arts and Writing is about to focus on the elements of Plot for the graphic novel One Summer. We will discuss exposition and rising action in great detail., and develop topic sentences and evidence to support.
The 8th graders are working hard in two books The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-time Indian and Pride of Baghdad. We are doing study guides for the books and are faced with answering essential questions of "What is freedom if you don't stay alive?" and Should Junior leave the rez?" and "How is rascism an external factor with the rez and Reardon high school?
Math: well it is all about rational numbers, powers, and scientific notation. Lots of Khan Academy and reading charts. Cheers! Talk at you next week, Week 5-Progress Reports. Parents get involved, because before you know it, your son or daughter will be hard to talk to.
